Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games finally announced a release date for Assetto Corsa EVO, the highly anticipated follow-up to the drifting and racing simulator Assetto Corsa.
Despite arriving later than intended, the game is set to launch on Steam Early Access on January 16, 2025, and fans can now wishlist the game on Steam. The full release date and console versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are yet to be confirmed.
The release announcement was accompanied by an announcement trailer showcasing the stunning visuals, alongside plenty of new features to get excited about. Nearly everything is labeled as in-game footage, too, providing a first substantial look at the game beyond the initial teaser images.
The clip highlights the incredible attention to detail in the car models while showing off more of the in-game car roster from manufacturers, including BMW, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Ford, McLaren, MINI, Lotus, Alpine, Volkswagen, and Morgan.
There’s a small teaser of the first tail-happy action from Hyundai’s AWD electric IONIQ-5 N, which is great to see. It doesn’t break traction enough to get an insight into the tire smoke that’ll feature in the game, but hopefully, we’ll be treated to that in the next teaser.
One of the most exciting revelations from the trailer is the potential hint at free roam gameplay, which unsurprisingly leaves fans buzzing.
A clip at the 1:30 mark shows a road close to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, specifically the double hairpin road from Adenau to the straight that leads to Devil’s Diner.
A Morgan Super-3 is seen cruising along the tree-lined back roads, with what appears to be traffic (BMW M4 CSL) driving in the opposite direction in the right-hand drive lane, as you’d expect in Europe. This has sparked speculation about the possibility of going beyond traditional track boundaries without requiring mods in AC for the first time.
The free roam idea is further supported by a showcase of urban environments. We see a Ferrari 296 GTB in what appears to be a cobbled Italian city street, where the ‘IN-GAME FOOTAGE’ promise remains.
Alongside these exciting developments, the clip properly introduces the previously-announced full day-night cycles and dynamic weather systems in all their glory, alongside iconic tracks such as Imola, the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and Brands Hatch.
Although the extent of drifting in the game has yet to be confirmed, it’s great to see some initial glimpses in the trailer. With mods confirmed, we hope it will soon become a worthy successor to the original title for drifting fans.
As Assetto Corsa EVO‘s January 2025 early access release approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a landmark title in the racing and drifting sim genre.
