featuredimage drift boss the ultimate guide

Drift Boss might look simple at first glance, but this free HTML5 browser game has become a favorite for casual gamers, whether looking for a quick drifting fix or chasing a new high score. With just one button to master, it strips away the complexity of most other drifting games.

Whether you only have a few minutes to spare or want to chase a new highest score, it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most popular drifting games here at Drifted.

The goal of Drift Boss is straightforward – drift around the corners without falling off the track. Sounds simple enough, right? The challenge is the further you go, the more difficult it becomes. Before you know it, you’ll need to master every corner with pinpoint precision to unlock the ultimate rides.

What makes Drift Boss special is the “just one more try” feeling that hits hard when you’re close to beating your personal best or unlocking a new drift car.

This guide will take you through everything from basic techniques to advanced strategies. We’ll cover how to consistently achieve new high scores, unlock all the vehicles, and master the trickiest turns and challenges the game throws at you.

Whether you’re just starting out in Drift Boss or looking to push your skills to the next level, you’ll find everything you need to know right here. The techniques we’ll cover work across all platforms and control methods.

Getting Started With Drift Boss

You don’t need to install anything or create an account to play Drift Boss. Just open your browser, head to the Drift Boss game at Drifted, and you’re drifting within seconds. Being built in HTML5 means the game runs smoothly on any modern device.

When you first open the game, it’ll look like this:

Drift Boss Controls

When you start the game for the first time, you’ll get a step-by-step tutorial to understand how the in-game drift physics works if you click the big “Play” button on the menu above.

The controls couldn’t be simpler – your drift car automatically drives forward (caution: there are no brakes!), and you only need to use one button the whole time.

As shown in the image above, press and hold (spacebar/touch/left mouse click) to drift right and release to drift left.

Your car naturally wants to travel toward the upper left of the screen. Pressing the control button will make it drift toward the upper right, creating the core challenge of timing your drifts perfectly.

Once you’ve mastered these simple left/right controls in the tutorial, you’re ready to head into the action right away!

Playing Drift Boss For The First Time

For your first runs in the game, here are a few tips to consider:

  • Stay in the middle of the track/platform when possible
  • Watch the upcoming track while drifting
  • Don’t chase every coin right away
  • Focus on staying on the track

The track features various jumps and corners to test your skills. As you progress, the turns become tighter, the jumps become gnarlier, and the track narrows, requiring increasingly precise timing.

As you start sliding through the track, you’ll spot coins. Collect as many of these as possible, as they’ll soon enable you to unlock new vehicles in the garage.

Common Drift Boss Beginner Mistakes

Here are some of the most common mistakes for Drift Boss newbies that you want to avoid. In this guide, we’ll help you master the game so that you have full confidence that you won’t also make these mistakes.

  • Trying to collect every coin right away
  • Using boosters too early before mastering the basics
  • Not utilizing the “tap” method on your mouse/touchscreen for precise control
  • Drifting too close to the platform edges (showing off!)
  • Panicking during tight turns

First-Time Tips For New Players

  • Start with short runs to build confidence
  • Practice staying in the middle of the track/platform
  • Watch out for the upcoming track while drifting
  • Focus on survival rather than collecting every coin

Getting Better Fast

  • Learn to master the natural left/right rhythm
  • Learn how to control the vehicle over jumps
  • Save your coins for the Fire Truck (500 coins)
  • Don’t use power-ups until you’ve mastered the basics
  • Make the most of the in-game rewards

Drift Boss Car List

The game gives you new ways to experience the endless drifting action with a huge selection of vehicles to unlock through various methods.

At the time of writing, Drift Boss has 31 drift cars. The most expensive vehicle you can purchase is the Fire Truck, which costs 500 coins.

Just 8 of the vehicles in the Drift Boss car list are available for purchase.

The other vehicles must be unlocked via “Cards,” which are gifted in your “Lootbox” packages. This is why using cards is so valuable. You can find further details on this in the Lootbox section below. Occasionally, you’ll also be gifted a free seasonal car, like the “Halloween” special edition witches cauldron!

Here are the cars available to purchase, along with their prices:

Green Car – FREE

Yellow Pickup Truck – 200 coins

Yellow Taxi – 250 coins

Police Car – 300 coins

Blue Van – 350 coins

Ice Cream Truck – 400 coins

Ambulance – 450 coins

Fire Truck – 500 coins

You might think the additional vehicles in Drift Boss are just a gimmick that doesn’t add anything beyond a visual improvement. However, you’ll be surprised once you begin unlocking each car.

While they’re not quicker (this would make Drift Boss harder!), each vehicle upgrade brings its own unique benefits.

The Best Car In Drift Boss

When we saw the Fire Truck was the most expensive vehicle to unlock in Drift Boss, we found it strange. Surely a Fire Truck isn’t the ideal drift vehicle?!

As soon as you start drifting with it, you’ll see why it’s so good for Drift Boss. Not only are the tires grippy and the handling precise, making it easy to drift in the exact direction you want to go with minimal sliding, but its size also helps. Since it’s bigger, it stays on the floating road easier, meaning it’s not as easy to fall off the edge!

Once we used our score hacks in the section below, we found it quick and easy to build up enough coins to unlock the Fire Truck, so check out that section now so you can try it right away!

Basic Scoring System & Progress

Getting to grips with how scoring works in Drift Boss is crucial for improving your performance and unlocking everything the game offers.

Understanding The Score System

Your score in Drift Boss is based on distance – the further you travel without falling off, the higher your score will climb. Each platform you successfully navigate adds to your total.

The game keeps track of your best score, which appears at the top of the screen (circled in green above) during gameplay. This becomes your target to beat in future runs.

As you stay on the track, your score constantly increases. Therefore, executing perfect drifts (staying in the middle of the track) is a good idea, as this will help you achieve higher scores.

Scraping the edges of the platform or making messy drifts won’t affect your score, but they make it harder to stay on the track and throw off your focus.

Collecting Coins

Gold coins appear regularly along the track. They’re usually placed in spots that test your drifting skills, often requiring precise timing to collect.

Each coin you collect adds to your total coin count, which you can see in the top-left corner of the screen (circled in green). These coins will be your in-game currency for unlocking new vehicles.

Missing coins won’t end your run, but collecting them consistently is key to unlocking new content faster. Some sections of the track place coins in tricky spots that require you to take riskier lines.

Although it’s tempting to collect as many coins as possible, think about whether it’s worth collecting a couple of coins if there’s a high risk of falling off the track. Sometimes, it’s better to skip a couple of coins to save having to start over – there will be plenty more along the way!

Advanced Scoring Tips

Once you’re comfortable with the basics in the section above, you can maximize your scoring potential using the in-game power-ups called “Boosters.”

Since the Boosters cost coins to activate, it’s worth spending time practicing and improving your skills first. Using power-ups too early will likely waste coins if you don’t earn more than you spend.

Start by practicing without any assists until you can consistently achieve decent scores, and focus on shorter runs to build up your coin reserves. Only invest in power-ups when you’re skilled enough to earn back their cost during your runs.

Drift Boss Boosters Explained

As you can see above, you can purchase each Booster by clicking its coin price below. They are also occasionally given out as gifts or rewards as you progress.

The number below each Booster tells you how many you currently have to use. You can use all three for a single run if you wish to.

Here are some tips to help you understand when to use each power-up.

Double Score (25 coins)

  • Doubles the points earned on your run (but not the coins!)
  • Most effective once you can consistently reach 500+ points
  • It’s only worth the investment when you’re confident in your drifting
  • Perfect for achieving the ultimate high scores, but not great for earning coins

Car Insurance (50 coins)

  • Provides a second chance after falling
  • Expensive for beginners still learning the basics
  • Most valuable during high-scoring runs
  • Be careful when given the second life, as you’ll sometimes need to drift immediately, or it’ll be a total waste!

Coin Rush (75 coins)

  • Spawns more coins along the track
  • Best used when regularly reaching 300-400 points
  • Higher cost means you need longer runs to profit
  • If you don’t collect more than 75 coins on the run, it’s not worth it, so the pressure’s on!
  • Consider using this alongside the Car Insurance Booster for a second opportunity to collect more coins.

Combining Boosters Effectively

  • Double Score + Car Insurance – Perfect for high-score attempts
  • Coin Rush + Car Insurance – Maximizes coin collection potential
  • Triple Combo – Perfect for earning points and coins in a single run. Save this for when you’re consistently reaching 500+ points (and feeling confident!)
  • Use combinations only after mastering single-Booster runs
  • Consider your coin balance before activating multiple boosters

How To Earn Extra Money (Drift Boss Score Hacks)

On the main menu, you’ll see a selection of options (circled in green above) that provide a variety of hacks to earn money in Drift Boss quickly. Let’s break down what each of these does.

Daily Rewards

You’re treated to new daily rewards each day you come back to play Drift Boss at Drifted.

You can access these rewards through the gift button (above) on the main menu, which shows a red notification when there’s something new to claim.

These Daily rewards give you free coins and other bonuses for showing up. Make sure to claim these each day – they add up quickly and can help you unlock vehicles faster.

Spin To Win

Spin To Win is a rare reward that you won’t often see. It will randomly pop up on the in-game menus and offer an opportunity to earn rewards. It can provide great rewards and it’s lots of fun, too!

Lootbox

Lootboxes are a great way to earn more cars for free.

You have two choices – “Basic Loot” or “Premium Loot.”

With the “Basic Loot,” you can open a free new card every minute. Click “Claim” below to get your free card.

If you want a “Premium Loot,” which gives 10 cards, press the “Watch” button and then watch an ad to get your 10 free card gift. Here’s how it looks once you’ve got the Premium Loot:

Once you’ve got the premium loot, you can do it again 2 minutes later.

Card Assembly

Within this section, you can combine the cards you earned in your Lootboxes to level them up and get new cars.

Once you have 3 of the same card, you can combine them by clicking each and pressing the “Assemble” button at the bottom.

Each time you assemble 3 matching cards, they level up. You can view all of your cards in “My Collection.”

My Collection

Heading to “My Collection” shows you all the cards you’ve earned.

As you can see, I’ve we’ve leveled up on “Locomotive” and “Phone Booth.” Once these reach Level 5, you will unlock that vehicle and drift with it!

Drift Boss Game Modes

Drift Boss revolves around its endless mode, where you aim to drift as far as possible while collecting as many coins as you can. But there’s more to explore beyond the main gameplay.

Drift Boss Mini Games

In the top right of the screen, you’ll see a selection of mini games to play, which looks like this:

As you can see, you can only play these once a day, so it’s worth doing so to get the bonuses.

Guess The Number

The traditional “higher or lower” game. In this mode, you’ll have to guess the number the game has in mind. It’ll then say “higher” or “lower” until you get the number.

When you guess the number correctly, you’ll earn a prize, and you can play it once a day, every day.

Match The Cards

In this mini game, you’ll see a grid of face-down cards and get four chances (shown as X marks at the top) to find matching pairs.

Successfully matching cards can earn you extra coins and other rewards. However, if you fail to do so within four attempts, you’ll need to start over. Match The Cards can be played once a day.

Simon Says

The classic memory game. You’ll see a grid of 8 cards with different shapes and colors. You’ll be provided with a selection of shapes to remember. Your task is to memorize these shapes and select them from the grid below in the correct order.

The game tests your memory and quick-thinking skills and will again earn you extra coins or other in-game rewards. It’s a fun way to boost your resources while taking a break from the main drifting action.

Like the other mini-games, Simon Says can only be played once daily, so make sure to try it when it’s available to maximize your daily bonuses.

Maze Challenge

In this mini-game, you’ll see a simple maze puzzle with a heart icon marking the goal. The light green path shows where you’ve already been.

Your task is to find the correct path from the start to the heart by dragging your cursor (or finger on mobile) through the maze.

Like the other mini-games, completing the Maze Challenge successfully rewards you with coins or other bonuses and can only be played once a day.
