EVENT: IDS Round 6: buon giorno monza!
The sixth Round of this year’s IDS season is also a premiere: First time in Italy!
The organisers of the Aventuradays, a big sport & motorsport event at the Monza circuit asked us last year wether we could do a run together with their event. We were really pleased to organise an event in Monza since its one of the most iconic racetracks in Europe. Friday morning, I headed with my Golf (shame on me) to Christian, a good friend from Switzerland and also member of the Canon Mafia. After a short police control and some confusion with two citys with almost the same name, I arrvied at his home and switched the golf for a passenger seat in his STI.
In my opinion an almost perfect STI: equipped with Work Meister and wingless, clean design.
Its all about details: Starter button on a carbon plate. This little red thing releases 450 horses out of the EJ20.
The Impreza in the 17km long Gotthard tunnel heading towards Italy. Who can spot Turbozilla?
Since I couldnt wait any longer, I left the hotel with the first car that drove to the track. I love the morning mood in the pits.
What Philippe Guillod can do with his green S14A is really a miracle; the “only” 330hp strong Nissan already won the third place at the JDM Allstarts Race in France.
The french drifter Matt Reuser presented his new drift car for the first time in public: It’s Phil McLachlans former PS13 with LS1 swap, a genius car!
I don’t know what the story about the manga and the name is, but the design looks great!
Joe Houndtonjii and his team worked all Saturday to get his V8 back up and running, but they didn’t suceed…
…at least they received a lot of attention by the Italian audience.
The drivers briefing, on the left side David Kalas (purple shirt), behind organisator Jörg Söhner, the second judge Niccolo Rosso (black jacket)
His old S14 was rocked down, so Alain Thomet (Speed Industries) decided to build a new S14. In Monza he tested his new car for the first time.
First training, first shock. Markus “Drifthunter” Müller crashed his E46. After the accerelation line he tried to initiate with a manji, hit the surrounding and spun into the poles and fences. He wasn´t harmed, but his BMW was dented on all sides.
Thats what the Americans call “Hellaflush”.
It may look like rubbish but Thomas Zaremba has the best fun/invested money ratio
Another new car: Harry Müller presented his 370Z for the first time in a competition. The suspension is all stock; for next year his baby gets some engine mods, proper suspension and an extraordinary widebody.
Street driver Martin Abegglen runs a simply beautiful S14 on 350Z rims.
Hans Jürgen Reiss rented his E46 M3 to Markus Müller after his crash, so two drivers competed in this car
The former Mclachlan PS13 is capable of really big angles and has enough power – perfect
Thirst thing I did when I saw this: put a sticker on it 🙂
Every detail on this car is just simply perfect.
Alain did well during the practice, he is running with 1.4 bars of boost, the engine is capable of 2 bars!
Even though the mediterranean sea was hundreds of miles away, there where some pirates.
Ralf Spandehl brought by far the meanest drift car I’ve ever seen.
An M50 engine with two straight pipes; while he is on the track you can’t hear anything else.
Driftteam Jörg and Dimi with their E30 Pick up and…
a “normal” E30 participated in the Street class.
Business as usual in the pits 😉
After a georgeous Saturday, the Sunday welcomed us with a thunderstorm and heavy rain. There were big stains on the track, so driving was impossible.
This season was the one with the most rain ever.
While the drivers where discussing what to do, the cars were washed by the Italian summer rain.
After an hour, the rain started to weaken, so the officials could inform the drivers to get ready.
Meanwhile David our judge, used the rain break to relax in his daily drift bitch.
The Vinyl work on Harry Müllers 370Z isn’t finished; for the upcoming season the Z will get a spectacular widebody, modded suspension and more power.
This is what a stripped 370Z looks like.
Team Falken member and european champion Remmo Niezen popped by; he was on holiday and thought it would be cool to watch others drifting.
Christian Kögler is also one of the favorites with his “London garage Chop shop” gold member S13.
“Germany’s next Aasbo” – Chris always tries to make a backwards entry. He ended up on the third place in Monza.
First time ever: All Nissan finals!
This drift car of the Italian Stella D1 series wasn’t competing; I’d love to see this lovely E92 wrecking some tires.
Phil Guillod loves drifitng in the rain, so he can compete even without as much horesepower as the others.
Stefania is co-host of the italian Stella D1 series, she rocks a FD on her shoulder.
Speed Industries media guy Marco Bolognese caught everything on tape.
Another short rain break.
Nice Nismo 350Z in the parking lot.
Insane Italian stunt driver rocking his trike – every second word of the host was “incridibile” (incredible)
Judge Nicolo brought his own S14 to the event, to exhibit it… (it says “wastegate”)
After a short practice session, the crowd got ready for some battle action.
Andrew Hirschy, member of speed industries, had to watch the battles off the track after some gearbox/clutch issues on his S14.
Carola Mecan pushed her S14 hard to win against Phil, but she didn’t succeed.
Alain Thomet was able to perform a great run and also a great chase on Martin Burdinski, so he proceeded.
Unique: Marcel Uhlig’s R33 is a mixture between graffitti art and stickerbombing (check out the rollcage!)
He did his very best to beat Christian Kögler but Christian took the win. You just can’t beat the massive angle of Christian´s “Frankenstein”-S13
The small final: Alain Thomet chases the 300ZX of Michael Scherr.
Michael Scherr won the second place, Alain Thomet got fourth – some points for Michael to improve his leadership.
Lucky second and leader of the championship: Michael Scherr from the Nissan Driftteam
