Drifting fans, the wait is (nearly) over!
With Forza Motorsport’s 20th anniversary approaching, they’re gifting players the fictional Japanese touge roads that made drifting so popular in the series’ early games. (Better late than never, huh?!)
After what feels like a lifetime, we’ll finally get to drift the legendary drift track that has been absent from the series since Forza Motorsport 4 (which most consider the franchise’s peak.)
“Our goal is to recapture the magic of drifting with your friends on the massive stretches of serpentine Japanese mountain roads,” Turn 10 explained in their announcement.
In case you forgot just how epic it once was, here’s a trip back to FM4’s glory days:
While most Forza players are delighted to see its return, some question whether it’s arriving around 10 years too late.
Can the new Fujimi Kaido live up to the (extremely high) expectations of the original? Let’s take a look at what’s on offer.
The twisty mountain roads feature 144 turns across 10 miles of drifting heaven
For those who don’t know, Fujimi Kaido is a fictional setting based on Japan’s real-world Fujimi town (Fujimi-machi) in Nagano Prefecture.
The 2025 Fujimi reboot brings 144 challenging turns over 10.24 miles (16.5 km) before reaching its 2,711-foot summit (826 meters), once again making it the ultimate location for drifting.
The track first appeared in the original Xbox Forza Motorsport in 2005 and quickly earned its legendary status before disappearing when the series moved to Xbox One with Forza Motorsport 5.
Turn 10 calls this their “biggest track project ever”
Fans never stopped requesting Fujimi Kaido’s return throughout Forza Motorsport 5, 6, 7, and even the most recent reboot.
Now, the endless requests have finally been answered (maybe persistence does pay off, after all!)
Turn 10 revealed they’ve been recreating the iconic location since the latest Forza Motorsport launched in October 2023, describing it as their “biggest track project ever.”
When the May content update arrives, Forza players will finally experience the beautiful touge roads in stunning 4K resolution for the first time.
For the die-hard FM enthusiasts that remember the OG Fujimi, there’s a slight catch, though…
The new Fujimi Kaido offers (far) fewer layouts compared to Forza Motorsport 4
Until now, Turn 10 Studios has only confirmed Full Circuit and Full Circuit Reverse layouts.
Frustratingly, this is a significant step down from when we last saw Fujimi in Forza Motorsport 4, when there were 14 courses and seven unique layouts on offer.
It also featured point-to-point variants, where you could re-enact Keiichi Tsuchiya’s famous touge battles.
Although they’ve only announced these two layouts, we hope they’ll continue adding more variations over time.
It seems crazy that the team would spend so much time re-creating the track to provide so little.
Anniversary plans include new cars and events alongside Fujimi’s return
While Fujimi Kaido is undoubtedly the highlight (for virtual drifters, at least), there’s more to come with Turn 10’s May anniversary celebration.
The team has promised “highly requested cars,” unlockable driver suits, special Career and Multiplayer events, and new Rivals challenges alongside “more to share”, which they’ll announce soon.
Given that this is the only other teaser they’ve included so far, we hope to see more drift cars announced. It’d be a shame to release Fujimi Kaido without some insane JDM cars in the same update. Either way, it’s still promising news.
With Fujimi arriving a decade later than many hoped, can the return of the legendary touge roads mark a turning point for the latest Forza Motorsport, which hasn’t been a huge hit with the drifting community until now?
Although they’ve gradually trickled out drift-related updates, the latest addition to the series has been mostly disappointing compared to the older FM games.
The 20th anniversary is the perfect opportunity for them to deliver the most impressive update yet, and we hope they can turn things around!
Imagine if they spent so much time on the new Fujimi Kaido that it’s ready to be included in the upcoming Forza Horizon 6. The fans have been constantly crying out for the series to head to Japan since day one, and having these touge roads integrated into FH6 would be incredible.
While you wait for the update and further news, Drift Hunters MAX offers the perfect opportunity to get your touge-drifting fix completely free!
