GR86, Levin, And Impreza Join Tokyo Xtreme Racer Roster
Three more JDM favorites join TXR’s car lineup as Genki teases what appears to be the biggest news yet with the first glimpse of gameplay footage.
The highly anticipated return of Tokyo Xtreme Racer continues to build momentum ahead of its 2025 release.
The modern revival of the cult-classic street racing series promises to deliver high-stake highway battles in a futuristic Tokyo setting, and the latest reveal has got the rumor mill talking.
After the initial announcement left fans buzzing, Genki has steadily revealed its impressive vehicle roster, with three more Japanese performance icons recently joining the lineup.
However, what follows the latest car announcement is what’s really getting TXR fans excited.
Three New JDM Icons Unveiled
After the previous announcements of the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V⋅spec II, Toyota Supra JZA80 MKIV, and Mazda RX-7 FD3S Type RZ, the growing lineup of epic JDM rides gets doubled with these recent additions:
Toyota GR86 RZ
The latest generation of Toyota’s beloved 86 platform will bring modern performance to TXR’s “future Tokyo” streets.
Powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4L boxer engine producing 231 horsepower in stock form (which we hope will once again be upgradeable), the GR86 carries forward the spirit of its predecessors while offering the latest tech and stunning aesthetics.
Toyota Corolla Levin GT-APEX AE86
Toyota’s legendary lightweight AE86 coupe needs no introduction to drift enthusiasts.
The Levin is the fixed-headlight sibling of the pop-up Trueno, which was made famous by the Initial D series and known for being the “Drift King” Keiichi Tsuchiya’s weapon of choice. Its perfect balance and responsive 4A-GE engine have made it arguably the best-known car in the drifting history books.
Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C
Reppin’ Subaru’s rallying heritage, the WRX STI brings something a little different from the previous unveilings thanks to its all-wheel-drive capabilities. Its turbocharged boxer engine and AWD system will undoubtedly make it a formidable opponent regardless of the weather.
Despite being best known for its rally exploits, the Impreza isn’t to be underestimated, as it’s not shy when it comes to getting sideways with a drivetrain swap. Also, let’s not forget that the Impreza (although the GC8 variant) was also the chosen touge car for Takumi’s father, Bunta Fujiwara, in Initial D.
The Next Big Reveal
Genki’s latest reveal at the end of the Impreza teaser breaks from its traditional vehicle announcement format. It features what appears to be actual in-game footage of the R34 GT-R and RX-7 FD3S weaving in and out of city traffic.
The brief glimpse showcases detailed night-time environments that channel strong Initial D vibes, suggesting we’re finally about to see what Tokyo Xtreme Racer will offer. If our suspicions are correct, this will mark the biggest TXR announcement, perfectly timed with the game’s approaching 2025 release window.
While more future car reveals are undoubtedly on the horizon, getting our first real look at gameplay has us more excited than ever for what Genki has in store. Here’s to hoping they’ll also showcase some sideways action!
