Highway Traffic

Highway Traffic Summary

Ever wanted to prove your skills by weaving through traffic at crazy speeds without the real consequences? That’s exactly what you get to do in Highway Traffic!

You’re not racing against other cars here. Instead, you’re trying to survive in an endless stream of traffic for as long as possible without totaling your ride.

The longer you last, the faster everything gets. What starts pretty chill quickly turns into a chaotic frenzy of avoiding traffic that’ll test your reflexes to their limits.

As you increase your skills, you’ll start racking up points that turn into cash to build the ultimate car collection and then squeeze out its potential with tuning and upgrade options.

You’ll score bonus points for close calls and narrowly avoiding other vehicles. Once you combine a few near-misses quickly, you’ll build up a combo that multiplies your score. (Trust me, the combos are worth the risk!)

With various game modes, weather options, tuning upgrades, and cars to unlock, Highway Traffic has a surprising amount of stuff to keep you coming back.

It’s perfect when you’ve only got five minutes to kill or when you’re “studying” in the library. (Don’t worry – we won’t tell anyone!)

Controls

Highway Traffic is optimized for both PC and mobile (iOS/Android) devices.

Keyboard Controls

The controls are straightforward:

  • W key/Up Arrow – Accelerate
  • S key/Down Arrow – Brake
  • A key/Left Arrow – Steer Left
  • D key/Right Arrow – Steer Right
  • Space bar – E-brake/handbrake (Great for emergency stops!)
  • F key/Left Shift – Nitrous (If upgrade is activated)
  • Q/E keys – Left/right blinkers/indicators
  • C key – Change camera view

Mobile Controls

  • On-screen buttons

How To Play Highway Traffic

Remember – in this game, instead of trying to finish first, you’re just trying not to finish at all! Your goal is to survive the endless stream of traffic that gets busier and faster the longer you last.

When you first load up the game, I’d recommend cranking the graphics settings to ‘High’ if your computer can handle it. If it’s laggy, stick with medium or low settings instead.

Scoring works by rewarding risky driving behavior. The closer you get to other vehicles without actually hitting them, the more points you’ll earn. A perfect scrape down the side of a car without crashing? Boom! You’ve nailed the sweet spot for maximum points.

The ultimate scoring arrives when you chain near-misses together. Pull off multiple close calls within a few seconds of each other, and you’ll build a combo multiplier that rapidly boosts your score.

Just don’t get too comfortable – if you go too long without another near-miss, the combo meter will drop back to zero.

There are several camera angles that you can cycle through to find your preferred view. Some players choose the close-up view, while others prefer the bird’s-eye perspective to spot traffic patterns coming your way. Give each one a try!

Don’t forget to challenge your friends to beat your scores. Nothing beats a little friendly competition, especially when you watch them crash on their first attempt! *evil laugh*

Game Modes

Now that you understand the basics, let’s check out the different game modes that’ll keep you entertained for hours:

One Way

The “simplest” mode, with all traffic flowing in the same direction as your vehicle.

Perfect for beginners, it still offers plenty of challenge as speeds increase. Being the easiest of them all, it won’t be a huge surprise that it’s not the quickest way to earn money.

Two Way

Cranks up the difficulty by introducing oncoming traffic (on half of the highway.) This is significantly harder but rewards you with more points and cash.

When you’re confident, venture into the lanes of oncoming traffic for massive point bonuses – though this high-speed, high-risk strategy will take some getting used to!

Tip: When things get too intense in the oncoming lanes, occasionally slip back into the correct lanes for a quick breather before diving back in.

Time Attack

You get 100 seconds to travel as far as possible, with checkpoints along the way. Great for challenging your friends to beat your distance record, but not our favorite mode.

Speed Bomb

Possibly the most nerve-wracking mode of all. You’re driving a huge bus with a “bomb” that’s constantly losing health. Crash into other cars or slow down too much, and *BOOM*! To keep the bomb’s health up, you must maintain high speeds and drive as cleanly as possible.

It’s a delicate juggle of speed and safety that’ll have your palms sweating. (You’ll understand if you’re old enough to know the movie “Speed” with Keanu Reeves!)

Weather Conditions

On top of the game modes, you can also select different weather conditions:

Sunny – The easiest option with clear visibility

Night – Looks awesome with all the headlights and street lamps, but more challenging due to the reduced visibility

Rainy – A gloomy day with wet roads that slightly impact your handling. Skids are more common, so be extra careful with your braking!

Car List

You’ll start with the Audi Quattro (or something that looks suspiciously like one), which is a solid all-rounder, especially when fully upgraded.

As you rack up credits, you can expand your garage with these beauties:

  • Sierra Cosworth – 5,000 credits (A step up in speed, with classic 80s boxy charm)
  • Van – 10,000 credits (Slower but surprisingly fun to thread through the traffic)
  • American Muscle – 20,000 credits (Power and presence, but the usual old-school American handling!)
  • Lambo – 80,000 credits (The ultimate car that’ll have you grinding for hours, but it’s worth it!)

The progression is deliberately slow to give you something to work toward. The Lambo feels especially satisfying when you finally get your hands on it after all that hard work. (Unless you use the money cheat we’ll tell you about later… but you didn’t hear that from me!)

Don’t forget that once you’ve bought a new car, you’ll want to tune and customize it to get the most out of the looks and performance.

Tuning & Customization

You might be surprised to see that Highway Traffic offers a surprisingly comprehensive amount of customization. Both visual changes and performance upgrades are available to make it your own.

Visual Customizations

  • Paint Colors – Three basic colors are free, while special edition colors cost 500 credits each
  • Rims – Stock wheels are free, but two upgraded options cost 500 credits each
  • Police Lights – For when you want to pretend you’re in a high-speed chase (or causing one!)

Performance Upgrades

Each of these has five upgrade levels to unlock:

  • Engine – Boosts top speed and acceleration
  • Handling – Improves how quickly your vehicle can switch lanes
  • Brakes – Reduces stopping distance (crucial for those panic moments!)

Special Upgrades

These only have one level and can be turned on or off.

  • Nitrous – Bursts of acceleration when you need it most (Using F key or Left Shift)
  • Turbo – Permanent boost to your acceleration and top speed

I’d recommend prioritizing handling upgrades first, followed by the engine. The better you can weave through traffic, the longer you’ll survive and the more credits you’ll earn. Each upgrade you purchase helps you earn money quicker, so it’s a worthwhile investment.

If you’re looking for the ultimate game when it comes to upgrades and tuning, you’ll want to give Drift Hunters MAX a try! Or, if you’re on a lower-spec device, Drift Hunters 2025 is a great alternative.

Hints & Tips

Want to maximize your score and survive as long as possible? Here are some pro tips that’ll have you flying past the traffic like a pro:

  • Master near-misses – Pass as close to other vehicles as possible (scraping is fine!) for maximum points and combo multipliers.
  • Watch for blinkers – AI drivers signal before changing lanes, but they’re not quite as good at using their mirrors!
  • Look ahead – Don’t fixate on the car in front. Scan down the road to anticipate the upcoming traffic patterns.
  • Use your nitrous wisely – It only helps acceleration, not top speed. Don’t waste it if you’re already at max speed.
  • Emergency e-brake – Perfect for when you’re heading into a crash and need to suddenly slam on the brakes, but it kills momentum.
  • Try all the camera views – Close-up is great for precision driving, and birds-eye can offer better traffic visibility.
  • Start simple – Build skills in One Way mode before attempting Two Way or Speed Bomb.
  • Prioritize handling upgrades – Better control means longer survival and more points.
  • Aim for combos – Chain multiple near-misses quickly to multiply your score dramatically.

Unlimited Money Cheat

Alright, I’m about to let you in on a secret… (Make sure no one’s looking over your shoulder!)

Although we don’t usually condone cheating, the Lambo in the showroom costs a ridiculous 80,000 credits. Sometimes, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Here’s what you need to do:

In Two-Way mode, your car starts perfectly centered on the road. If you simply hold the throttle down without touching any steering keys, you’ll magically thread the needle between all the traffic.

The game’s physics engine has a sweet spot right down the middle where cars never quite hit you. Hold that up arrow or (W key), and watch the credits roll in!

Want to take it to the next level?

Wedge something into your keyboard’s up arrow key (I used a small screwdriver), and leave your computer running while you do something else. Come back to millions of credits! (I went for a quick walk and returned to have enough to unlock everything in the game.)

Don’t be that person who brags about their insane score to friends, though. Nobody likes a cheater – but everyone likes driving a Lambo! So, use this power wisely.

If only getting a Lamborghini in real life was this easy, huh? Enjoy your new ride(s), and don’t forget to earn enough for the upgrades, too!

If you like Highway Traffic but want more cars, tuning options, and online multiplayer mode, you’ll want to check out Highway Racer.
