Leaked Tokyo Xtreme Racer Video Has Us Even More Excited

The leaked footage ahead of TXR’s January 23 release shows off the gameplay on Ultra settings, tuning options, and the first look at the highway battles.

You’ve likely seen that Genki sent out some sweet promotional packages to content creators ahead of Tokyo Xtreme Racer’s upcoming release. However, detailed leaks have been kept under wraps – until now!

In the video above, YouTuber GameRiot brings the first ‘real’ insight into what we can expect from the TXR Early Access release via Steam on January 23, 2025. The game will initially be priced at $29.99, with a planned price increase before the full release.

In the footage, we get to see the new TXR in all its glory, with full ‘Ultra’ settings, but it’s worth noting that anything you see in this video may change before the official release.

Let’s discuss some of the highlights from the video.

Heading to the dealer, GameRiot opts for the Toyota AE86 as his starter car, mentioning it’s the most affordable of three initial options (more money for mods, yo!).

Unfortunately, he opted to keep the other car choices under wraps to avoid spoiling the surprise. (Hey – we don’t all like surprises!)

We then get our first look at the in-game menus.

One of the game’s main appeals is the huge selection of licensed aftermarket brands, showcasing some of the best JDM tuning houses.

And it wouldn’t be a true Tokyo Xtreme Racer reboot without a selection of neon underglow options!

At this point, we get our first look at the physics, which looks a little less jerky than we saw in the initial previews, along with a little tail-happy action!

Also, the birds-eye view will please those who said the default camera looked a little too close. Unfortunately, some will be disappointed that there’s no cockpit view. For now, anyway…

Remember, this is just an early glimpse, but we feel it’s already showing incredible promise with its stunning visual overhaul, revamper soundtrack, and perfect modernized touches. We love that it’s not HUGELY different from the classics. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

From what we’ve seen so far, January 23 can’t come soon enough!

If Genki takes community feedback seriously during Early Access, just like they’ve promised, we could be looking at something truly special here for long-term fans.

We’re convinced it’ll be special once the Early Access is finished and refined before the PlayStation and Xbox console releases.
