Luke Fink Changes 2025 Formula DRIFT Engine Plans
Despite initially opting for an adventurous Nissan RB30 build, the Australian is now choosing something a little more conventional for his Rookie FD season.
In November, we announced that Luke Fink would be making the biggest move of his (already hugely impressive) drifting career by joining Formula DRIFT for the full 2025 season.
That wasn’t the only exciting news, either. He also announced that he intended to bring an RB30-powered, 1,500-horsepower, four-door R32 Skyline to the party.
Despite the hype from the RB and JDM fanboys, the announcement immediately left others skeptical about whether the RB engine was the best choice.
In a move that won’t come as a huge surprise, he’s now flipped the script on his plans and chosen a more logical, albeit less unique, option: a supercharged LS V8.
But don’t take this as disappointing news – he certainly knows how to rip with a V8, as seen in the Low Brain Odyvia PS13 image above!
While “another” LS in FD might not be as exciting as the RB many were hoping for, it makes much more sense and hopefully means he’ll face fewer issues plaguing his season. Formula DRIFT is brutal on cars, and the iron-block LS has proven to be pretty much bulletproof when built right.
After an initial lack of sponsor interest in the RB plans, the switch has seen Magnuson Superchargers jumping on board to support the project.
Wisefab is also creating unique R32 suspension parts for the build, including new upper arms. These will likely be a new product on the market for Skyline owners shortly.
The R32 remains Fink’s main focus, but he has plenty of other projects keeping him busy (as always!), which he discusses in the video. His RB dreams aren’t dead, either, since he’s sourcing a Neo RB25 for his Nissan Patrol and plans to build a 500-horsepower setup.
Fink needs to have the R32 ready for testing by late January 2025, just before shipping it to America for the upcoming FD season. With his aggressive driving style and this unique build, we can’t wait to see what happens when he hits the track!
