MKIV Supra Confirmed For Tokyo Xtreme Racer Alongside New Teaser
Toyota’s iconic 2JZ-GTE-powered legend joins the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R in the growing JDM roster, while the fresh teaser hints at the next reveal.
We called it! The iconic MK4 Toyota Supra JZA80 is officially the latest car to be confirmed in the roster for the upcoming Tokyo Xtreme Racer reboot, set to release in 2025.
If you somehow missed the previous announcements, the legendary street racing series is being revived after an 18-year hiatus, with developer Genki Co., Ltd. promising a return to the franchise’s roots.
The MKIV Supra, produced from 1993 to 2002, is one of the first names that comes to mind when people think of JDM icons, making it a perfect fit for the game.
At its heart lies the legendary 2JZ-GTE engine, a 3.0-liter inline-six capable of handling immense power with minimal modifications. In stock form, it produces 320 horsepower, but its overengineered nature means it can reliably handle over 1,000 hp with the right upgrades.
The 2JZ-GTE’s insane tuning potential and reliability (when done right) are the reasons it is arguably the most sought-after engine in the drifting community. It has become the go-to choice for many drifters across the globe, earning a reputation as perhaps the most impressive engine ever created for the sport.
However, the Supra’s incredible engine is not the only factor that makes it highly regarded. Its popularity also stems from its perfect balance of power, weight distribution, and good looks.
Its starring role in “The Fast and the Furious” franchise also helped it achieve mainstream fame. The orange Supra, driven by Paul Walker’s character, became one of the most recognizable movie cars ever, inspiring a generation of tuning and drifting enthusiasts.
In the real world, MKIV Supra prices have been soaring recently, with Paul Walker’s movie car fetching $550,000 at auction. While you might think that’s a rare exception, even stock examples are selling for almost $250,000.

Given the team’s typical nature of the TXR announcements, it’ll be no surprise that the MKIV Supra wasn’t the only announcement. Fans will know that the team likes to tease what’s coming next.
Now, at the risk of spoiling yet another surprise (sorry again, Genki!), we’re confident about the next car announcement lurking at the end of the clip. You guessed it, it’s yet another JDM legend. However, if you don’t want to know which one, look away now…
It’s the Mazda RX-7 FD!
The rotary-powered stunner is another cornerstone of JDM culture. Its 13B-REW twin-rotor engine produces 255 horsepower in stock form and has similar crazy power potential to the Supra (albeit significantly less reliable!)
Like the Supra, the RX-7 FD has had its share of movie stardom, featuring prominently in the Fast and Furious and the hit drifting anime series Initial D. It’s also become one of the most recognizable drift cars ever, partly thanks to Mad Mike’s MADBUL.
With Genki revealing cars one by one, we’re not expecting a Forza Horizon-sized roster (the largest of which boasts over 750 vehicles). However, the quality of these initial teasers, alongside the previously-announced Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V⋅spec II, has us excited for what’s to come in the highly anticipated reboot.
