New Tokyo Xtreme Racer Teaser Likely Hints At What’s Coming Next

Tokyo Xtreme Racer just dropped a new teaser with an unusual camera angle that’s got the fans talking.

  • Latest teaser showcases a never-seen-before ground-level rolling shot angle
  • Breaks away from typical camera views seen in official game footage so far
  • Matches Genki’s confirmation of upcoming photo mode during recent AMA

Tokyo Xtreme Racer returned after an 18-year hiatus with a Steam Early Access release on January 23, 2025.

Since then, TXR’s developers, Genki, have promptly released bug fixes and other issues to ensure the game performs optimally.

However, we’re now two months into Early Access, and the fans are becoming increasingly vocal in their requests for new features.

It seems Genki just teased what we’re likely getting next

In the words of Lil Jon – ‘Get Low’

When the team dropped this new teaser featuring the Toyota Supra JZA80 on the Japanese @Shutoko_Battle X (formerly Twitter) page, it immediately got the fans excited.

It’s not the car that sparked interest (for a change), but the camera angle they chose to showcase it.

Until now, nearly every official in-game TXR screenshot has featured ‘that’ typical camera angle. Any keen fans will know the one I mean.

Yup, that one!

Although TXR has other views (even cockpit and VR, thanks to the active third-party mod community), this is typically ‘the chosen’ view.

However, in the new teaser, the shot is taken from an angle practically scraping the ground, mimicking the super-low rolling shots you’d see from real-world highway photographers who literally hold their cameras inches from the road.

Since the initial post, Genki has continued dropping even more teasers (on March 25.) At this point, they’re just playing with us!

However, what’s even more exciting about these two new screenshots is that two more new features are revealed.

Firstly, the rival stickers now show different color variations. The ability to change the colors wasn’t available in the initial Early Access release.

Secondly, if you look closely, you can see window stickers behind the BGW – another feature that wasn’t previously available.

Thankfully, all these new features are much better than the Supra’s fitment!

The teaser aligns with Genki’s earlier confirmation

During their recent Reddit AMA, Genki mentioned that “a photo mode will be added” to the game. This teaser is our first glimpse of the feature.

In-game virtual photography has become increasingly sought-after in recent years, especially with games like Gran Turismo, Assetto Corsa, and Forza, which allow you to create stunning, realistic images of your virtual rides.

What other features are expected to arrive soon?

In addition to confirming Photo Mode in the AMA, Genki announced many other features coming soon, including new cars, expanded tuning options, and additional game modes.

They even hinted at possible expansions and sequels, but you’ll likely need to wait a while.

There’s also “a possibility for older teams to make a comeback”, and they’re “looking into a time attack mode” for the game.

Fans are also hopeful they’ll see more manufacturers added. One that begins with “H” and ends with “onda” seems to be a sought-after choice!

“We are also negotiating with international car brands,” Genki mentioned.

For now, PS5 and Xbox fans are left in limbo, with the team simply stating, “Console version is TBD.”

However, given the sheer number of requests, they’d be crazy not to. After all, the game was born on consoles and feels perfectly optimized for playing on a controller.

Regardless, there should be plenty for TXR to look forward to in the coming months (for PC players, at least.)

If the team can stick to the initial schedule (we’ve yet to hear otherwise), we should expect to see the full game released in May – yes, just two months!
