Spec II Mod Arrives To Revolutionize Gran Turismo 4
The much-anticipated release shakes up the PS2 racing classic with new content, enhanced audio, gameplay refinements, and much more.
Spec II brings a nostalgic experience to one of our old-school drifting favorites, proving that even after two decades, GT4 still has plenty to offer virtual drifting and racing enthusiasts.
“TheAdmiester,” with the help of various other highly regarded modders, delivers a comprehensive unofficial overhaul that breathes new life into the beloved PlayStation 2 racing sim.
The free mod drastically expands and enhances the original game with modern touches, trying to do so as Polyphony Digital intended. The best part? It’s completely free!
What’s Different In Spec II?
You’ll be surprised at how much has been modernized for Spec II, and the work is truly mindblowing. Here are some of our favorite features:
Improved Sounds
One of the main features is the enhanced engine sounds for over 400 cars and 130+ new recordings. The video above highlights the crazy overhaul.
It also includes improved race transmission and tire skid sound effects – perfect for experiencing tire shredding on a whole new level!
New Race Cameras
These new perspectives offer fresh ways to experience the game’s 700+ cars, including:
- Interior silhouette cockpit view
- Hood camera for an enhanced sense of speed
- Tall, far chase camera with locked pitch
Repaintable Cars
You can now repaint your cars at GT Auto, adding a fresh and much-needed customization aspect to the game’s vast selection of JDM legends.
Why Polyphony didn’t integrate this in the first place is beyond us! It’s easy to see why it was such a highly-requested feature.
Event Synthesizer
A standout addition is the Event Synthesizer, allowing you to create custom races with adjustable parameters. This feature greatly expands the game’s replayability by offering endless possibilities for race creation.
Highlight Owned Cars
The mod introduces a new feature highlighting owned cars in dealerships, making tracking your collection and planning purchases easier.
Additional Features
- 15+ new events added to various event halls
- Circuit Valencia from Tourist Trophy added to Arcade Mode
- Several Korea-exclusive vehicles added

Is Gran Turismo 4 Spec II Good For Drifting?
GT4 was ahead of its time with its drifting physics and retro drift cars; even today, they still don’t disappoint.
While modern games such as Assetto Corsa will provide a far more realistic experience, it doesn’t get much better than GT4 when it comes to retro nostalgia.
The O.G. game features a huge selection of classic D1GP cars and surprisingly accurate drift physics, as seen in the video above.
One of the standout features that Spec II brings for drifters is the enhanced audio, including improved engine sounds for over 400 cars and enhanced tire skid sound effects. These audio improvements are particularly noticeable during drifting, making the drifting experience better than ever.
