Tokyo Xtreme Racer Teases Skyline GT-R And MKIV Supra

Licensed Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R and Toyota Supra MKIV headline the car roster for Genki’s highly anticipated TXR reboot.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer (TXR)’s Japanese developer, Genki, unveils two iconic JDM legends for the upcoming Tokyo Xtreme Racer reboot, showcasing the newly-recreated visuals with a Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V⋅spec II, complete with a custom “Tokyo Xtreme Racer” license plate.

Nissan’s cult classic, famously associated with Paul Walker, looks to be joined by another legendary addition lurking in the shadows at the end of the video with “NEXT”, hinting at the imminent announcement – the unmistakable silhouette of the MKIV Toyota Supra.

(Sorry for spoiling the surprise, Genki. You’re gonna have to try harder next time!)

The reveal confirms the earlier hint that players would get to “drive real cars” in the reboot, marking a significant shift from the original game’s approach of slightly altering car names to avoid licensing issues. (Don’t panic – the graphics in the image above are from the O.G. game!)

Including officially licensed vehicles aligns with trends in other recently announced Japanese-focused drifting games, such as JDM: Japanese Drift Master, with official licensing seemingly becoming more common than ever.

While details about the Tokyo Xtreme Racer reboot are still emerging, we know the game will be set in a “blocked-off future Tokyo” with “meticulously recreated courses.” It’s scheduled for release in 2025, and new information is gradually trickling out. Those interested can wishlist the game on Steam to stay updated on the latest developments.

The game joins a lineup of upcoming racing and drifting titles that are set to launch soon, including Assetto Corsa EVO, CarX Drift Racing 3, CarX Street (for consoles), JDM: Japanese Drift Master, and Wreckfest 2. The surge in upcoming releases suggests a growing interest in drifting, offering plenty of options for sim racing enthusiasts.

As more details about the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer emerge, these JDM legends leave us excited for future announcements, and we’re sure that plenty more classics will be teased shortly. Don’t worry – we’ll update you as soon as we hear anything!
