Tokyo Xtreme Racer Xbox Release Date
Following the 18-year break, developer Genki surprised fans by revealing the series’ comeback in 2024.
This was quickly followed by the announcement that the Early Access version would be available on PC via Steam on January 23, 2025.
While no official release date has been announced for its Xbox return yet, Genki’s statements have strongly hinted that the game will likely come to consoles following the final PC release, which should be in May 2025.
The May 2025 estimate stems from their statement, “The plan is to improve the quality of the game by making various improvements based on your feedback over the course of approximately 4 months of Early Access.”
Despite TXR’s console roots, the decision to launch on PC first allows the team to engage directly with its global fanbase and swiftly implement improvements and fixes based on feedback from the fans. They stated, “… we felt it would be best to launch the game in Early Access to do justice to the franchise.”
“The reason we chose PC first was because we believe it will allow the most ease of access to our fans all over the world as well as allow us to tweak and improve the game as quickly as we can,” the developer explained.
While they’re still yet to officially announce the console release dates, their emphasis on a “PC first” approach strongly suggests that Xbox and other console versions, such as PlayStation, will follow soon after the final PC release.
Will TXR Be Available On Xbox One?
There is some uncertainty surrounding which specific Xbox platforms the game will support. So far, Genki has only released the system requirements for the PC version, and they’ve been surprisingly high.
Given the supposed requirements, the Xbox One may not be capable of running the game smoothly. In this case, Tokyo Xtreme Racer would likely only be released on the Xbox Series X|S, given its more advanced hardware.
However, it’s important to note that this is purely speculation until we have official information regarding Xbox console compatibility. In the meantime, we hope they find a way to optimize the game, allowing everyone to enjoy the long-awaited revival.
What To Expect When TXR Arrives On Xbox Consoles
When the game is ready, Xbox fans can expect a full story mode, an impressive roster of over 200 unique rival characters, a newly refined Spirit Point battle mode, and a new “skill gain” system.
The game will also feature more in-depth tuning and upgrade options than ever before. Players can modify their vehicles with licensed aftermarket parts and upgrades, alongside plenty of visual customizations from their favorite aftermarket JDM brands.
Hopefully, the extra development time spent perfecting the PC version should ensure it meets the expectations of Xbox fans who’ve waited nearly two decades.
